[About the Planet]

Earth - Our Only Home

Earth is the third planet from the Sun and the only world we know of that supports life. Like a blue drop of water floating in the darkness, it holds our cities, forests, oceans, and everything we call human civilization.

[Extreme Environments]
Compared with the other planets, Earth enjoys the rare, almost perfect conditions of the habitable zone. Its atmosphere contains the oxygen and nitrogen life depends on, and water circulates across its surface. Yet not every corner of this seemingly peaceful blue world is as warm and safe as our textbooks suggest.

[Orbit]
Earth takes 365.24 days to orbit the Sun. Its steady rotation brings a regular cycle of day and night. Here we live day after day, through spring, summer, autumn and winter, through every ordinary Monday to Friday.

[Did You Know?]
Although we live on Earth, much of it remains a mystery to most of us. Some places are bathed in sunlight; others stay in shadow all year. If life on Earth feels suffocating, perhaps you simply haven't found a window that lets you breathe.

[Symbols & Legends]

In mythology, Earth is often the mother of all living things: a symbol of stability, life and shelter. She is where every journey begins, and the anchor we return to at its end.
